DEMOS is committed to revitalizing public thinking and policy decision-making through its exploration of new issues, fresh ideas and policy recommendations which also lend themselves to practical implementation.
Demokratikus Oktatásért Kelet-Európában Egyesület (The Joint Eastern Europe Center for Democratic Education and Governance) – not active since 2001
The Center was established in 1991 as a joint initiative by the Hungarian Institute for Educational Research and Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Administration. Its objective was to create public awareness of social issues in Eastern Europe. Its work included running community development programs for civic organizations which attempt to enhance public deliberation, and creating civic education curricula for secondary and higher education.
Partners Hungary Foundation was established by Partners for Democratic Change, an American nonprofit organization that funded headquarters in several Eastern/Central European countries (Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Romania, Croatia, Georgia) for the support of democracies emerging after the political transition.
The primary objective of Partners Hungary is to prevent and resolve the tensions and conflicts inevitably implied by the everyday practice of democracy, the emerge of new social, political, market and institutional structures, to popularize the techniques and procedures necessary for this, and to manage changes.
